Asiatique, The Riverfront (Bangkok, Thailand)

Address: 2194 Charoen Krung Road, Wat Phraya Krai, Bang Kho Laem, Bangkok 10120, Thailand
Opening hours: 5.00p.m. - 12 midnight
Website: Asiatique, The Riverfront

Asiatique, The Riverfront is a relatively new night market, opened in May 2012. It has a large shopping area and is a nice place to chill out at night. It is popular with the locals and tourists. With live bands performing at almost every corner, you can enjoy the music while you eat in their restaurants/pubs or when you're shopping! Jerald and I headed here on our second night (11 Dec 2014) in Bangkok.

The picture below shows you how big this place is. There are 1500 shops and 40 restaurants! You will definitely end up buying things you need and don't need!

How to get there
- By Boat

We alighted at BTS Saphan Taksin Station and proceeded to Exit 2.

It led us to the ferry terminal.

Look out for this and join in the queue!

This is our shuttle ferry. It operates from 4.00p.m. to 11.30p.m., at 15 minutes interval. The last ferry leaves Asiatique at 11.15p.m..

Cruise spotted along Chaopraya river.
We were enjoying the cool breeze and river view during our 10 minutes ferry ride. Good time to relax after a whole day of shopping!

Finally, we reached our destination.

My favorite 'Yummy Crepe'! The crepe is one of the must-eat when you're at Bangkok!

I always buy their Banana-Chocolate Crepe! อร่อยมาก (very delicious)!
I think I ate this at almost every night market I went to in Bangkok and Chiang Mai.

We decided to try this spicy fried chicken from 'Chicken Pop'.
Personally, I found it too spicy to enjoy the taste of the chicken.

Time to spam some photos of the shops here.

Extremely crowded shop filled with foreigners!

 Racing tracks for the kids...

… and this for the adults.

 Entrance of the Ferris Wheel.
Adult: THB300 ; Child: THB200

Love the pretty lightings.

After spending 2 to 3 hours there, we decided to sit on the benches beside Chaopraya river for some couple time. Definitely a romantic place for couples too. :)

This is my first visit and I'll definitely be back again, especially for the Ferris Wheel ride which we gave a miss. Don't forget to drop by this wonderful place if you're going to Bangkok!

Let me end off this post with 2 wefies!

:)

Favourite photo taken that morning! #nofilter #goodhairday
Only the wefies are taken using my LG G3 phone which never fails to make our faces look flawless!

The Roof @ 38th Bar (Bangkok, Thailand)

Taken from minoritynomad

Address: 144, Sathorn Nuea Road, Silom, Khet Bangrak, Bangkok, 10500, Thailand (Mode Sathorn Hotel)
Tel: +66 2 623 4555
Opening hours: 6.00pm to 1.00am

"The Roof @ 38th Bar" is on the rooftop of Mode Sathorn Hotel. It is a newly opened rooftop bar and restaurant that has a 360 degrees view of Bangkok City. As shown in the map above, it is located near BTS Surasak Station. Jerald and I visited this place on our first night in Bangkok.

Upon arriving at Mode Sathorn Hotel, we took a lift up to the 37th storey and climbed up a flight of stairs which led us to The Roof @ 38th Bar. We were able to choose our seats as it was not crowded that night. There were so many different kind of seats that I had a hard time choosing where to sit.

We finally decided to sit here.

Holding on to my beloved camera which captures beautiful and clear images despite the darkness.

Food and drinks for the night.

Seafood Gratin
Sautéed Hokkaido scallop, prawn, NZ mussel and squid with sautéed leek in seafood white wine sauce topped with Emmental cheese au gratin
Cost: THB850

This dish is heavenly! Trust me, you CANNOT miss it when you visit this place. This is one of the best dish I've ever eaten. The first mouth I had was the mussel, together with its gravy. I can still clearly remember how rich in taste the gravy was and how it melts in my mouth. Jerald and I couldn't stop sending praises about the dish as we eat. I will definitely come back to this rooftop bar just for this dish when I head over to Bangkok next time!

Beautiful night lights in Bangkok.

The weather was great that night. The rooftop is open-sky so it is not advisable to come here on a rainy day. We were enjoying the good music throughout the 2 hours. Both of us wanted to order more food but the kitchen closes at 12 midnight.

For those who have a night to spare, you can drop by for a visit here!

GLOW Trinity Silom Hotel (Bangkok, Thailand)

Taken from Agoda.

Address: 150 Silom Soi 3 (Naratiwas Soi 3 or Sathorn Soi 8) Silom Road, Bangkok 10500
Tel: +66 2 2315050
Fax: +66 2 2315417
Website: GLOW Trinity Silom Hotel

Jerald and I had a 5D4N stay (10 - 14 Dec 2014) at Glow Trinity Silom Hotel, which is located near BTS Chong Nonsi Station. It is approximately 40 minutes away from Don Mueang International Airport. Our taxi driver had some difficulty locating the hotel (He probably never been there before) when I told him it is situated at Silom Soi. 3 ('Soi' in Thai means 'Lane'). To make it easy for the taxi drivers for the next few days, we told them to drop us at BTS Chong Nonsi Station as our hotel is 2-minutes-walk away from there. There is a 7-Eleven store right outside the BTS station which makes it extremely convenient for us to buy our snacks and drinks before heading back to our hotel.

Through Agoda, we booked their Premier room at a good price. The friendly staff brought us to our rooms and showed us where the safe deposit box, towels, plugs, iPod docking station, etc were and told us the facilities around the hotel. I was quite surprised when he did that because I have never gotten such an explicit introduction before. Thumbs up for their excellent service! :)

Check-in time: 2.00p.m.
Check-out time: 12 noon

I particularly love the daybed by the window!

I was trying to recap some Thai words I learnt during my Immersion program.

I like hotels with the television placed right in front of the bed. However, the television is surrounded by the wooden frame as shown in the picture which means that we could not plug our hard disk into the USB port to watch our shows! Luckily, this hotel actually provides DVD rental service! I'll talk about it later in this post. :)

Room service menu & iPod docking station with speakers

Daily complimentary coffee, tea & 2 bottles of mineral water

I realized the toilet door was functioning rather uniquely. If you notice carefully, the toilet door can be pushed in and it will then become the shower door. So, others can still use the basin and toilet bowl even though someone is showering! Totally doesn't intrude each other's privacy. Plus points for this! I know it can be irritating at times when someone is bathing and you have to answer nature's call urgently but you can't get into the bathroom. Haha.

There are gym, pool and sauna facilities as well as complimentary Wifi for all rooms! Anyway, if you would like to purchase a SIM card, I suggest going to any 7-Eleven store and request for HappySIM. You can have 7 days of unlimited data for only THB199! If you are staying in Thailand for 5 to 7 days, you may still wish to purchase this because it costs THB49/day for unlimited data. You know the math.

The hotel is not located beside the main road, so there is no need to worry about any noise disturbances. It is a safe place to stay. The staff are very friendly and approachable. Private tours are easily available if you're looking for one. Simply let the receptionist know what you have in mind and they will arrange everything for you. The place is very clean too! We had a comfortable stay throughout the 4 nights. Definitely value of money!

That's me sitting at the hotel lobby. :)

I mentioned about the free DVD rentals available in this hotel earlier on. It is actually diagonally behind where I am sitting in the picture above. They have a wide selection of DVDs (mostly English and some Thai movies) which are up-to-date. We borrowed 5 DVDs in total and returned them just before checking out of the hotel.

On the top right corner of the picture, there is a restaurant (The Foodie) that serves food all day. Since our booking doesn't come with breakfast, we did not get to try their food. There is also a restaurant bar at the hotel lobby! I see many foreigners enjoying their drinks and chilling out every night. You can watch soccer matches or play pool there too.

You can click on the links (Agoda/GLOW website) I put up above for more information about their dining, facilities and room rates! I got to know about this hotel through my colleagues. Many of them recommended it to me and yes, it did not let me down. Hopefully this will help for those considering this hotel! :)

Love,
CY
